About the Whitewater Survey:
The Whitewater Survey is a place for recording and viewing recreational trips on New Zealand’s rivers.
The Trip Log Form helps to collect data on rivers and their uses. You can build a dedicated journal of your adventures and see your own entries at a glance in your very own members area on the site. In your trip log you can include photos, links to videos, and mark the location of your trip photo on the map. The Report a Hazard form provides a place just for Hazards with a dedicated map that allows the user to easily see the location of hazards that others have reported.
Over time the trip logs will help to build up a picture of flow preferences for different river users and positive/negative factors that are important to recreational opportunities and experiences. You can help by recording your whitewater trips as often as possible.
MyRiver is an initiative by the Sustainable Waters Trust, a registered charitable trust based in Christchurch, New Zealand. The purposes of the Trust include:
To encourage the conservation and sustainable use of New Zealand’s water resources, including the water bodies, margins, and associated landscapes characterised by water in all its forms.
To increase knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of New Zealand’s water resources through activities such as research, outreach, science communication and other appropriate means.
To engage and assist New Zealanders in observing and recording information about water resources and their management.
To develop and support electronic and other information infrastructure to assist individuals and groups to record, view, and share information as an educational resource.
To advance the purposes of the Trust through partnerships with a range of collaborators and community stakeholders interested in water resources, including managers, contributors, schools and other end users of information.
